CMS PECOS update for Part A providers
Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has shared a significant change for Part A providers which include home health agencies and hospices.
As of April 1st, 2019 Part A providers will now need an NPI that has been registered in the Medicare Provider Enrollment and Chain/Ownership System (PECOS) database.
This means if you are attempting to verify Part A Inquiries with an NPI not present in the Medicare PECOS database will fail to return Medicare eligibility data.
Episode Alert recommends that you review your PECOS status for any NPIs currently used by your organization. You can check your PECOS status here: Pecos Part A enrollment
If your NPI is not currently registered with PECOS, please update that information here:CMS PECOS
